Are you an enthusiastic gardener who likes to grow your own plants? Then you may already be familiar with seed trays. But for those who don't know or have never used seed trays, don't worry: seed trays are super useful and easy to use. Grow healthy and strong plants with a seed tray.

What are seed trays?

Seed trays, also known as seeding trays or plant trays, are essential tools for any gardener. Seed trays are useful for growing or propagating plants in, before planting them outside. They are thus specially designed to promote the germination process of seeds and provide an optimal growing environment for young seedlings. Our seed trays are made of sturdy material which makes them long-lasting. Each seedling tray is divided into small compartments - the perfect place to plant your seeds. Because many seedlings in a smaller space means better results. A seed tray also helps you organise your flower seeds and prevents your plants from becoming entangled with each other during the growing process.

What seeds can be used in seed trays?

Seed trays are a handy tool for starting seedlings. But which seeds can actually be used in these trays? Well, you can grow almost anything in a seed tray. From amaranth and zinnia to dill and basil, seeder trays provide the perfect environment for germination and growth. The small cells in the seeding trays hold the seeds in place and prevent them from shifting during the watering process. This promotes healthy root development and makes the transplanting process much easier later on. Of course, you can also germinate vegetables in a greenhouse or at home. Plenty of possibilities!

Seed tray, push-out tray and greenhouse

At FAM Flower Farm, you will find a seed tray with as many as 144 cells. This seedling tray is made of hard plastic. It is sturdy and durable, making it last for many years. The sturdy material makes it easy to move the plant tray. Our seed trays are easy to fill with soil, seed or cutting soil and you can easily water from below. Not only that, the seed trays have a drainage hole so that the plants can absorb the water well and get enough oxygen. With a push-out tray, you can easily push the plants out of the plant tray.

If you want to go all out, a greenhouse cover for seeding trays is ideal. It allows you to start cultivating earlier in the season because you create a controlled environment where temperature and humidity can be regulated. A greenhouse also speeds up the germination process.

The benefits of seed trays

Seed trays are a great tool for gardeners and growers to grow flower and vegetable seeds. They offer several advantages over traditional methods such as sowing directly in the ground.

One of the main advantages of seed trays is that they ensure organised and efficient sowing. With seed trays, you can easily plant several seeds at once, saving time and promoting even growth. Moreover, the uniform space between seeds helps ensure that each plant has enough room to develop.

Another great advantage is that seed trays offer better control over the environmental conditions in which the seedlings grow. For example, you can properly regulate watering by simply adding water to the seed trays, resulting in less wastage of seeds.

Our seed trays are made of reusable hard plastic, which is much more sustainable than disposable plastic. Production is almost emission-free and takes place in a factory powered entirely by renewable solar energy. This reduces CO2 emissions by as much as 70%. Choose our eco-friendly seed trays and contribute to a cleaner planet.

How to use seed trays?

Fill the sowing tray with potting soil or seedling soil. Make sure the soil is well moist before you start sowing. This ensures that the seeds get enough moisture to germinate. Then you can place the seeds in the seed trays.

Place one to two seeds per box, depending on the type of plant you want to grow. Then cover lightly with a thin layer of soil, following the recommendations on the bag of seeds. Some seeds actually need light to germinate and others should only be covered with 0.5 cm of soil.

Then it's time to water. Use a watering can with a fine spray head or place the plant tray briefly in a container filled with water until the surface becomes moist. Be careful not to over-water, as excess water can lead to mould growth and rotting of the roots.

Afterwards, place a clear plastic cap over the plant tray if necessary to retain moisture and retain heat for faster germination. However, remove this cap regularly to prevent condensation and mould.

Place the plant tray in a warm and bright place, but not directly in the sun. Check daily that the soil is moist and water if necessary. When the seedlings are big enough to transplant, you can carefully remove them from the planting tray. You can do this very easily with a special push-out plate. Place this plate under the seed tray and gently push the plants upwards with one hand. This way you can easily remove the young seedlings from the tray without damaging them.

You can also use the plate to fill all cells of the seed tray with soil with holes in one go. As many as 144 holes in a few seconds. Insert seeds, cover with soil and the job is done.
